Cleaning Your RV’s Exterior

RVs can get quite dirty during a trip. Luckily, washing an RV isn’t so different from washing a car (with a few noteworthy exceptions). Read on for tips on cleaning your RV’s exterior.

Start at the Top of the RV

Regardless of whether you’re using the soap and water method or the pressure washer method, you’ll want to start at the top and then work your way down.

Clean the Roof

Divide the roof into a grid in your mind, and tackle one section at a time so you can be as thorough as possible. After you’ve finished a section, make sure you rinse it clean of any soap or dirt so that it doesn’t redry onto the surface. When you’re finished with the roof, move to the sides.

Clean the Sides

Divide the sides of the RV into vertical columns. Start at the top of a column and then clean and rinse your way down until you get to the bottom, then move over and clean the next column. This will allow you to clean in an ordered manner without dripping dirt onto an area you just cleaned.

Dry the RV

Once your RV is totally clean, take a squeegee or towel and dry it off.

Detailing

If you want to get really involved, you can do some basic detailing, too. A standard liquid wax will add some shine to painted, powder-coated, and enamel surfaces. Simply apply it with a large damp sponge in broad circles. It should look like a dull, but not thick, film on the surface of your RV. Give it a couple minutes to dry out and then buff it off with a clean terry cloth.

If you want to give your tires a bright, factory-fresh sheen, hit them with a little tire shine.

You can also clean the windows with some automotive window cleaner. You can be just as ambitious with your RV as you would be with your car!
